Midwest Radiology Foundation Pledges Support to Help Rebuild Minority Business Communities

| Midwest Radiology

As part of our ongoing commitment to addressing the most pressing needs facing the communities we serve, Midwest Radiology and the Midwest Radiology Foundation are proud to announce a major gift to the Greater Twin Cities United Way (GTCUW) Rebuild for the Future Fund.

The protests and unrest that followed the killing of George Floyd on May 25 hit three areas in Minneapolis and St. Paul especially hard: the Lake Street and West Broadway Corridors in Minneapolis and the University/Midway Corridor in St. Paul. Hundreds of small businesses were affected in these areas, many of them black and minority owned and operated.

“Many of these small business owners were also already suffering from the economic effects of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Michael T. Madison, MD, Midwest Radiology President and Chief Executive Officer. “With shops and restaurants destroyed or damaged, many are in danger of closing permanently, which would be a major loss to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) business owners, their families, the neighborhoods they serve, the local economy, and the character of our beautiful and diverse cities.”

The Rebuild for the Future Fund provides direct funding to community intermediary organizations, including the Black Women’s Wealth Alliance, African American Leadership Forum, Neighborhood Development Center, Native American CDFI, and Hmong Chamber of Commerce. These organizations then distribute the funds to businesses in all three Minneapolis and St. Paul neighborhoods, as well as provide training and infrastructure improvements to ensure those businesses reopen stronger and more resilient.

“We at Midwest Radiology are both incredibly proud of and humbled by the strength of the communities we serve,” said Dr. Madison. “We are honored during this difficult time to be able to give back to communities of color. We look forward to continuing our support of the small business and cultural institutions that make our home so special and unique.”
